The University of Colorado at Boulder is well-known as one of the “greenest” universities around. The school recently earned high marks on the Sustainable Endowments Institute’s College Sustainability Report Card 2010 – In fact, it was the top-ranked school in the nation for sustainability. It also won Sierra magazine’s award for top “green” university. Our Web site will explore what makes CU stand out on the green scene and what the next steps are for building a more eco-conscious campus.
Project Title: We’re hashing this out, but suggestions included “Green University” or “Eco U”

lauren.e.walter@colorado.eduStatement of Purpose: The purpose of our site will be to provide the CU student body, prospective students, and the Boulder and environmental communities with information about CU’s efforts to utilize sustainable practices in its development plans and day-to-day administration.
Scope and Scale: Though we initially considered creating a site about Boulder’s environmental issues, we decided that such a project would be too broad in scope, so we instead decided to focus specifically on CU’s sustainability efforts. At this point, we are mainly concerned with campus sustainability itself (building, carbon emissions, transportation, and waste management). However, we could expand the project to also include CU’s efforts to integrate sustainability values into the curriculum.
Division of Labor: Since this project will focus on different areas of sustainability, we will divide the workload by topic/issue, with one-to-two people working on each topic. Each individual/team will be responsible for text and multimedia for his/her/its topic.
Story Ideas:
· CU’s environmental history
· CU’s Carbon Neutrality plan to reduce greenhouse emissions
· Recycling/Composting
· LEED certifications
· Local/Organic food at CU
· Transportation issues: Biodiesel, bike program, bus passes, Zimride
Anticipated Obstacles:
· Getting too broad (trying to cover too many topics)
· Getting too detailed (becoming concerned with the specifics within topics)
· Time constraints/Computer lab availability
· Finding the right sources
· Redundancy with existing sites, particularly CU’s
Environmental Center site
· Compelling multimedia images/video
· Technical issues involved with Web site design
